    In my own words

I showcase my poems and short stories inspired by my island home.  By celebrating the unique spirit of Barbados in my writing, I hope to foster a deeper appreciation for its beauty and inspire others to explore its treasures. My work is a tribute to the place that fills me with inspiration and joy, offering a glimpse into the heart and soul of Barbados for all to enjoy. Through my storytelling, I seek to preserve the essence of Barbadian culture and heritage, ensuring that its stories continue to be cherished and celebrated for generations to come.

    "Have you been to Barbados?"

"Have you been to Barbados," they all asked with glee,

As they gathered 'round, under the tall palm tree.

The sun was shining, the sky clear and bright,

As they listened closely, with eyes full of light.

"Have you seen the beaches, so sandy and wide?

With crystal blue waters, where dolphins glide?"

They giggled and nodded, imagining the sight,

Dreaming of adventures from morning 'til night.

"Have you tasted the fruits, so sweet and so ripe?

From mangoes to pineapples, each a delight!"

They licked their lips eagerly, wanting to try,

Fruits from the island, folk lined up to buy.

"Have you danced to the music, so lively and bold?

With rhythms that warm you, even when it's cold?"

They swayed and twirled, in their make-believe land,

Hearing the beat of the steel drums so grand.

"Have you met the locals, so friendly and kind?

With stories to tell, of treasures they find."

They nodded in wonder, imagining the tales,

Of pirates and mermaids, ships with great sails.

"Have you explored the jungles, so wild and green?

With monkeys swinging, a sight to be seen?"

They imagined the adventure, deep in the trees,

Where every leaf whispers secrets, with ease.

"Have you seen the sunsets, so fiery and bold?

Painting the sky in shades of gold?"

They closed their eyes, imagining the view,

As the day bid farewell, to the sky's azure blue.

"Have you been to Barbados?" they all sighed with delight,

In their imaginary journey, taking flight.

For in their minds, they had travelled far and wide,

To a magical island, where dreams abide. -KIB

What happened to the Flying Fish?

Once upon a time in the Caribbean sea,

Lived a school of flying fish, as happy as can be.

But one day they noticed, with a puzzled frown,

The water was warming up, turning their scales brown!

"Oh no!" cried Finn, the leader of the crew,

"We need to find a new home, and that's what we'll do!"

So they flapped their fins and set off in a flutter,

To find a new spot that wasn't so cluttered.

They flew to St. Lucia, but the water was too warm,

To Antigua and Jamaica, where they weathered a storm.

They even tried Grenada, but it was too crowded,

With fish of all sorts, they felt so hounded.

Finally, they arrived at St. Vincent's shore,

The water was perfect, not too hot or too cold, but more!

With a splash and a leap, they dove right in,

And found a new home where they could frolic and swim

So if you're ever  in the Caribbean sea,

Keep an eye out for flying fish, as happy as can be!

They found a new home, thanks to their brave act

Leaving Barbados, never to go back. - KIB
